Having a beautiful smile may be even easier than you think. Many people achieve the look they’ve been dreaming of with our simple “whitening” procedure.
What is teeth whitening?
It’s safe, quick, and inexpensive. Just let us know at any appointment if you would like to whiten your teeth. You can lighten only your upper teeth or both the upper and lower, depending on how much you show when you talk and smile.
Dental whitening is used to correct yellow and grey tooth discoloration. These unsightly colour changes can be caused by staining of foods, aging, or chemical damage to teeth. Using the latest in whitening technology, we can offer a safe method for creating a beautiful “youthful” smile. In cases of extreme tooth discoloration, dental crowns or veneers may be the only choice, but because of the low cost and simplicity of bleaching treatments, teeth whitening is nearly always worth a solid try.
How is teeth whitening done?
Key Benefits of Teeth Whitening
- Corrects darkened yellow tooth staining
- Works on people of any age
- Is a long term solution for a “dull” smile, restoring brightness and brings a dull smile to life
- Easy to ‘touch up’ any time
An impression is taken to make a customized clear bleaching tray to hold the whitening against the teeth. A small amount of special bleaching gel is used each day for about half an hour for a week or two. The bleaching agent actually bubbles stains right out of your enamel without altering tooth structure or existing dental work. At the end of this time, significant whitening should occur for most people. It is hard to predict just how bright your smile becomes but in some cases, the change is quite dramatic. When your teeth reach the desired brightness, only occasional touch-up treatment is needed to maintain your new confidence building smile. For severely stained teeth that do not respond as desired, crowns or dental veneers may be more appropriate.
Bleaching trays are probably the most customized whitening method used in our office. If you prefer, we also offer alternative bleaching techniques such as Whitening Strips and a new Pre-loaded Tray System both of which do not require 2 visits or custom impressions.
Considerations for Teeth Whitening…
Occasionally an increase in sensitivity may occur but this is temporary and will go away in time. Over-the-counter bleaching agents are available for purchase at drug stores and pharmacies. However, since these products can cause harm to the gums and teeth if used without the dentist’s supervision , it’s better to use professional products and techniques that our practice recommends.
